Middletown is known for outdoor recreation, in part because of our many public parks and beautiful river bike path and walking trails. Situated on the scenic Great Miami River, Middletown has beautiful views, riverfront amenities and water recreation.
The Great Miami River Trail is ideal for running, walking and cycling. The Trail follows the Great Miami Riverway which is a part of the Great Miami, Mad and Stillwater river system named as a National Water Trail. Only 22 National Water Trails exist in the United States, with this being the only one in Ohio.
Smith Park is another popular destination. Smith Park features picturesque nature settings, fishing opportunities, soccer fields, baseball, picnic areas and trails. Teens enjoy spending time at the Baker Bowl Skatepark and younger children enjoy the playground and places like Douglas Park. Click here to view information on all of Middletown’s public parks.
For water recreation, get out on the Great Miami River where there are opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, bird watching and more.
Additionally, Middletown is host to several outdoor events that include the Ohio Challenge Warrior Weekend to Remember, which takes place each July. It features everything from hot air balloon launches, a balloon glow, skydiving and the county’s largest fireworks show.
