The sweat equity of volunteers has brought Middletown’s historic Sorg Opera House back to some of its former glory in recent years. Designed by Music Hall architect Samuel Hannaford, the theater is graced by red plush seats donated by Music Hall after its own 2017 renovation.
The volunteer board has worked hard to fill those seats – numbering 750 – with vibrant seasons of shows, even as it continued to revitalize the space. Then Covid-19 hit.
“The week that the governor issued the stay-at-home order, we had our first sell-out concert slated to happen with all 750 seats sold. It was a Bee Gees tribute act,” said Nancy Griffith, board president of the Sorg Opera House Revitalization Group.
